Nevada Law: OSHA 10-Hour Required

Nevada Revised Statute 618.380 requires all construction workers to complete OSHA 10-hour training within 15 days of starting work on a construction site. Failure to comply can result in fines and workers being sent home from the site.

Nevada OSHA 10-Hour Requirement — What You Need to Know

Nevada is one of roughly 20 states with a state-specific OSHA plan (Nevada OSHA, or NVOSHA) that meets or exceeds federal OSHA standards. The OSHA 10-hour Construction card is required for all construction workers within 15 calendar days of hire or site assignment. General contractors are responsible for verifying their workers and subcontractors are compliant.

Who Needs It

Every worker on a Nevada construction site — laborers, operators, subcontractors, foremen. If someone is on your payroll and on a Nevada construction site, they need an OSHA 10-hour card within 15 days. Project managers who are on-site regularly should have the OSHA 30-hour card.

OSHA 10 vs. OSHA 30

The OSHA 10-hour course (10 hours of classroom instruction) covers hazard recognition, fall protection, electrical safety, PPE, and construction site standards. It is the baseline for all workers. The OSHA 30-hour course (30 hours) goes deeper into supervisory responsibilities and hazard assessment — recommended for foremen, superintendents, and safety officers. Both cards do not expire.

Forklift Certification in Nevada — What OSHA Actually Requires

OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178(l) requires forklift operators to be trained and certified before operating a powered industrial truck. The certification must be specific to the equipment type being operated (sit-down counterbalanced, stand-up reach truck, rough terrain, etc.). Certifications expire every 3 years or when a safety incident occurs, the operator is observed working unsafely, or new equipment types are introduced.

At EquipMe Rentals, we offer hands-on forklift certification covering classroom instruction, pre-operation inspection, and supervised operation — specific to the forklift type your crew uses. Certification cards issued same day upon completion.

Crane Operator Certification — NCCCO in Nevada

Since November 2018, OSHA requires crane operators on construction sites to be certified by an accredited testing organization. In Nevada, that means NCCCO (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) certification for the specific crane type: mobile, tower, overhead/bridge, or suspended personnel. NCCCO certifications are valid for 5 years.

EquipMe Rentals offers NCCCO prep courses with hands-on time on our crane fleet. Mark Popjoy is NCCCO certified and teaches the practical component of crane operator prep. Call for course dates and pricing.
